Prank-tice makes perfect
At this party, pranksters ages 6-10 learn the art of the prank, from the secret of the squirting soda can to the mystery of the amazing disappearing cake. They’ll learn how to use commonly found objects to pull several (not-mean) pranks on friends, siblings and parents. Led by author of the bestselling book Pranklopedia, Julie Winterbottom, the parties will have you saying, “Pranks a lot!”
Ahoy! Everything is Shipshape for Birthday Parties on the Lilac Steamship!
This summer, we’ve partnered with the Lilac, a steamship docked in lower Manhattan, to offer a new series of birthday parties for kids ages 5-11 on board the docked ship. We offer three themed parties: Mermaids, Pirates, and On the High Seas. Each one includes a tour of the ship, a custom-made crafts activity by The Crafty Kids, games, a story, pizza, and party bags. Parties are offered Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 AM, through October. For more info, or to book a party, email [email protected].
Sure, you can have a birthday party indoors…and on land. But why would you want to?
Cherub Improv: Winging It
Cherub Improv is a wonderful, funny group with its heart in the right place–they perform for underserved communities as well as at events. Check out their website: www.cherubimprov.org. They’re great at birthday, holiday and office parties, or workshops for adults and kids.
Shadow Play
Watch shadow puppetry taken to a new level. In this interactive party, see demonstrations of different kinds of puppets, followed by a show; stories include “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Puss in Boots,” as well as myths and folk tales. Shows based on music (anything from classical to nursery rhymes) can even be “illustrated” with puppets. Or feel free to suggest your own theme. Bonus: Children can make their own puppet to bring home.
Kids Cook
Kids and the kitchen: A natural fit (let’s forget clean up). Choose delectable dishes kids can make and then eat—including the birthday dessert. Decorate cupcakes or our sociality—a five-tiered birthday cake. Have a picnic or tea. We can even provide everything from aprons to decorations.
The Craft Table
We love crafty parties. We can do everything from an open-ended crafts table, where we put out supplies
and let kids do free-range crafts, or stick to a theme: Make projects inspired by classic myths or a favorite book;
create shadowboxes, holiday decorations, and more. And we love working with Creativity for Kids, the makers of the Creativity Can.
Their beautiful, open-ended art supplies are a perfect fit for our craft workshops and parties. Find out how you can get crafty with their
gorgeous supplies at your next e.t.c. event!
Theater parties
The Play’s the Thing: Participants can create their own (brief) play or scene, along with props and costumes, or do theater games and improv.
Book Birthdays
Get more use from that dog-eared copy of “Where the Wild Things Are.” Choose a favorite children’s book–or let us choose one for you–and we’ll design a party around it. Stories (of course), plus arts and crafts, an interactive performance, or a scavenger hunt round out this bookish bash.
Musical Book Birthdays
Love Tubby the Tuba and Peter and the Wolf? We bet you can still hum the opening bars. That’s why we’re so pleased to have teamed up with Altius Winds, wonderful musicians who will narrate a music-based children’s story, then accompany it with the music. Check out their website, at: www.altiuswinds.com.
Pajama-Rama Ding Dong
What’s better than wearing your pajamas but not having to go to sleep? Having a party in them! You provide the kids, the pjs, and the stuffed animals; we’ll provide the stories, snack, activity, and more. Ever wonder what your stuffed animals do when you’re asleep? Leave a stuffed animal after the party so they can have their own slumber party–we return it to you with a booklet with pictures of their activities!
Scavenger hunts:
One of our most popular offerings, and for good reason. Our scavenger hunts are customized from scratch, for
a neighborhood, museum, park–it’s up to you. The Central Park Zoo, The American Museum of Natural History, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, plus themed hunts like Children’s Books in Central Park and Alice in Wonderland. And our hunts are interactive–each participant gets a bag of objects needed to finish the
hunt, in addition to written clues. Great for parties, anniversaries, team-building exercises or Just Plain Fun.
Themed Parties
Frozen (including Anna and Elsa sing-along), Alice in Wonderland (Ask us about having it at Alice’s Tea Cup!), Pirates, Princess, Sports, Cowboy/Rodeo, Jungle/Safari, Luau, Carnival/Circus, Cooking, Candy Buffet, Harry Potter, or another theme of your choice.

Food
We like our food with a bit of whimsy—and you should, too. That’s why we love Mary Giuliani Catering. Their food isn’t just fabulous—it’s fun. And if you’re looking for fabulous, check out their client list (we’re not naming names, but we hear that Bradley Cooper, Stella McCartney and Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld might have had a nibble.) Plus, she has an exclusive partnership with Mario Batali called MARIO by Mary.
Check out their website: marygiuliani.com, then let us know how we can help you set up a fantastic event.
We’re also happy to offer the option of “The Extra Plate,” a program to help curb hunger in New York–ask us about feeding options in your own community. More information can be found on rexduvalcaterers.com.
Tea Time
Learn how to create an elegant tea party. Pinkies in the air optional.
Just Enough Cooks
Let Sharleen Cowan, former co-owner and chef of Carnegie Hill Café and Sharz Cafe and Wine Bar, show you how to make that dish you’ve been longing to try. Cowan brings more than 20 years of experience to her interactive demonstrations, designed to teach you how to add to your cooking repertoire.
Specialty Tables
We can help you design beautiful themed dessert tables, craft tables, tables with party bags, and more.
Scavenger Hunts / Table Games
We create scavenger hunts or table games from the ground up–your choice of neighborhood, place, subject matter.
Our hunts are interactive–each participant get objects needed to help solve the clues. And our table games are great for dinner parties,
backyard barbecues or corporate events.
Hands-On
